EAST-WEST CALLIGRAPHY

Works by Kazuaki Tanahashi and Monica Dengo

The traditional workshop, included this year among MUVE Academy activities, will be accompanied by an exhibition of calligraphic works by Japanese calligrapher Kazuaki Tanahashi and artist Monica Dengo.

Both the workshop and exhibition will focus on investigating the origins of the art and mutual exchanges between East and West. The exhibition will be an opportunity to explore handwriting as an artistic form and a vehicle for knowledge and messages that can help to create a dialogue and effective cultural bridge between East and West.

Kazuaki Tanahashi in particular, active in California since the 1960s, has greatly contributed to the dissemination of Japanese calligraphy in the United States, as well as increasing public awareness of Zen Buddhist literature.

Monica Dengo, one of the first and most important figures in reviving the art of freehand writing, has been working for many years with the Museo Correr Library to promote calligraphy through workshops and by organising exhibitions and themed events.
