From April 2024
Venice, Museo Correr – Sala delle Quattro porte
Museo Correr Library, Scuola Abate Zanetti Murano
Curated by Monica Viero
The annual appointment with fine writing, comprising lectures, lessons and workshops, is, for this special edition, dedicated to Arabic and Chinese calligraphic cultures. The lessons, workshops and exhibition will therefore focus on an investigation into the origins of the art of calligraphy and the mutual exchange between East and West, with a special in-depth study dedicated to the calligraphic cultures encountered by Marco Polo on his journey to China. At the same time, participants will delve into the origin and evolution of handwriting in Italy and Europe through the study of precious ancient manuscripts, rare incunabula and extraordinary printed volumes held in the Museo Correr Library.
The exhibition linked to the theme of the masterclasses, held as usual at Museo Correr, will offer a further opportunity to bring to the fore the value of handwriting as artistic expression and a vehicle for knowledge and messages, capable of creating a dialogue and an authentic cultural bridge.
