SPLENDORS OF THE RENAISSANCE IN VENICE. Andrea Schiavone among Parmigianino, Tintoretto and Titian

Temporary exhibition at Museo Correr, 28 November 2015 – 10 April 2016

A lone wolf, Andrea Medolla (Zara, 1510/15 – Venice, 1565) would, because of his Slav [schiavon] origins, become known as Andrea Schiavone. An anti-academic painter, he stands as an independent figure in the magnificent world of the Venetian Renaissance, but with his summary – almost “abstract” – style he clearly influenced both Tintoretto and Titian, even if he remained a controversial and non-conformist artist. This is the first exhibition in Venice to be dedicated entirely to him and examines Schiavone’s work at a time when it is receiving renewed critical attention.
